BANDA ACEH, BBG NEWS – The Bina Bangsa Getsempena University Library (UBBG) in Banda Aceh conducted a training session on research methods and academic writing titled ‘Exploring the Potential of Student Writing and Academic Work’ held at the UBBG Library literacy space on Tuesday (11/14/23), attended by 40 UBBG students. The event was organized in collaboration with the UBBG Research and Community Service Institution (LPPM). Moderated by Juni Febriyanti S.Pd, the session featured Dr. Syarfuni, M.Pd, Head of UBBG LPPM, as the main speaker.

During the presentation titled ‘Writing Research Paper,’ Dr. Syarfuni emphasized that academic work is closely related to the realms of education and research. Academic work represents the outcome of various research endeavors, presenting facts and adhering to proper writing methodologies established by educational and research institutions. It encapsulates data, facts, and solutions pertaining to addressed issues, coming in various forms such as essays, articles, final papers/theses, journal articles, papers, theses, and dissertations.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that academic work isn’t solely confined to professors and researchers; students in the course of their studies are also expected to produce scholarly works such as final papers/theses. The process of crafting academic work involves creating an engaging title, employing suitable methods, sourcing and gathering writing materials, structuring the framework, drafting, revising, and finalizing the content.

“Simple tips for high-quality academic work include employing active and concise sentence structures, minimizing the use of first-person pronouns, and structuring thoughts from broader perspectives to specifics. Additionally, sourcing references through Scopus, Mendeley, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Sinta-indexed journals is recommended,” Dr. Syarfuni added.

Separately, Ashabul Kahfi, S.IP, Head of UBBG Library, conveyed that conducting training sessions on research methods and academic writing aligns with the library’s agenda of fostering a writing culture among students. He expressed gratitude to the speakers for their informative sessions and acknowledged the successful execution of the training, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of the UBBG Library team comprising Iza Fajri, S.IP., M.MLS, and Ade Nufus, S.IP., M.A. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers by the Head of the Library and a group photo session involving all participants and speakers.
